Personality Disorders

Sad on Couch

Find Balance, Build Understanding, Life Fully.

Living with a personality disorder can feel like navigating life with a constant storm overhead, but you are not your diagnosis, and you are not alone. With the right understanding, support, and strategies, it’s possible to find stability, build stronger relationships, and create a life that feels authentic and fulfilling. At Cortes Counseling, we meet you where you are, without judgment, and walk with you toward clarity and hope.

What are Personality Disorders?

Personality disorders are patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that are deeply ingrained and may cause challenges in daily life, relationships, or self-image. They develop over time and can make it harder to cope with stress or connect with others in healthy ways. These patterns aren’t a sign of weakness, they’re often shaped by a mix of genetics, life experiences, and environment. With therapy, many people learn new ways to manage their thoughts and emotions, improve relationships, and live with greater peace and purpose.

When Should I Consider Counseling for Personality Disorder?

You might consider counseling if your thoughts, emotions, or behaviors are creating ongoing difficulties in your relationships, work, or sense of self. If you often feel misunderstood, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or overwhelmed by intense emotions, therapy can provide guidance and tools to navigate those challenges. You don’t need to wait for a crisis — counseling can be helpful at any stage, offering a safe, nonjudgmental space to understand yourself better and build a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling.

What Happens During Counseling for Personality Disorder?

Counseling for personality disorders is a supportive process focused on understanding your unique experiences and building skills to navigate life more effectively. Together, you and your therapist explore patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and relationships, uncover what’s been keeping you stuck, and practice new ways of coping and connecting. Sessions are collaborative, compassionate, and paced at your comfort level, with the goal of helping you feel more in control, more understood, and more at peace with yourself and others.
